4 Ways to Share Your Skills and Knowledge

You might have ample experience, skills, and knowledge with you. You may also be willing and ready to share your knowledge with others. But, you might not know how to share your knowledge. When you see a newbie and if you think that the youngster has potential, then you can take them under your wing. You can nurture their inborn talent and teach them new skills. You can show them the ins and outs of the trade. You can share your experience. You can share the lessons you have learned over the years.

While you do this you must remember to keep your eyes, ears and mind open. This is because; when the partnership is strong both you and your student will end up learning. This is the best perk of being a mentor.

Being a mentor will actually give you a fresh, new perspective on the work that you do. This has a reason and it is that your mentee in youthful and inexperienced. This will actually translate into a new angle to look at the work you do, which in turn will grant you powerful insight.  But this will only be possible if you are open to the idea.

Become a Teacher

You can teach a specific topic to multiple students at once. You can do this by presenting a topic of your interest at a local industry conference or meeting of your professional association. You can also host events like a “lunch and learn” at your company. You can present your knowledge in such a way that it is engaging and enlightening. But there are a few things that you must remember while doing this. You must never talk “down to people”. Never be condescending toward the audience. You must try and open a conversation between you and the audience. Try to tap into the wisdom in the room. This way the audience would feel that it is a safe space. This would, in turn, result in them sharing their own expertise and experiences. You should never assume that only you have something to share.

Training others will help you in two ways. Regardless of whether you do your training in a small or big scale, the training will boost your public speaking skills. It will also help to position you as an expert. Standing in front of a room can give you a certain amount of credibility.

Become an Author

You can try writing down your knowledge to pass it on. This is a very good way of sharing knowledge because; the written word is a great tool for reaching people. You can do this in many different ways. You can write an article for a publication that caters to your industry or profession. You can also start a blog, which is the easier alternative. We guarantee that once you put your thoughts out in the world, you will feel empowered. You’ll make more connections because the internet gathers a global audience and this will help change your career and life.

If you are a published author regardless of the medium you are afforded a level of authority, this is another perk. For some strange reason, writers are considered to be experts even if they are pretty clueless.

Once you get your name on a few by-lines, your professional visibility will increase and it will give you the reputation of a leader in your field. But you should be sure of the content that you put into writing and must be willing to stand by it. This is because whatever you write will create a permanent record that will follow you for the rest of your career.

Become a Resource

When you find a new way to do something or read a helpful article or find a new piece of vital information, you should share it with others. This way, each and every day you’ll have something to share that may be helpful for your colleagues. You don’t have to wait for a training session or request. You can just send an email to your colleagues saying that you’ve found something helpful. You can send messages like: “Here is a new way of doing this thing” or “I just found this tutorial for this new function. Thought you could use it too”.

These small gestures from your part can have a large positive influence on others. It can even influence their entire career.
